Welcome to our blog!

September 29 2009

I’m Erin Caudell, outreach coordinator for the Ruth Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan. I’ve been writing a gardening column for the past two and a half years that is published in the Flint Journal and two other east Michigan newspapers, and this blog seemed a natural next step.

Gardening is a passion of mine. So is Flint. I’m proud of this community and the ambitious initiatives in Genesee County related to gardening and urban agriculture. This will be a great place for us to talk about them while we share ideas for making our gardens and our lives more productive, more sustainable, and more satisfying.

Look for new postings every few days. Occasionally you’ll hear from other members of the foundation, too. They are a talented group. For more information about the Ruth Mott Foundation, you’ll find a link on this page.

Thanks for checking in!

    Hi,

I read in the Bay City Times on Sunday, January 3, 2010 the article about Pretty paperwhites. I was wandering where I might be able to get these delicate bulbs. I would like to try growing them in my home during these winter months. Can you please let me know where I can purchase these bulbs? Waiting for your reply. Thank You in advance!

I just got your postcard today and added this site to my favorites list. As a former employee of Mott Children’s Health Center, former volunteer at Applewood and lifelong admirer of the Motts and all they stood for, I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Mott initiatives through this site.

Hi Erin — I have been given your name a couple of times through our contacts at Applewood and Ruth Mott. My name is Heidi McAra and I am Community VP for the Junior League of Flint. As you may have heard, we are holding our Kids in the Kitchen event and walk on Saturday, April 24th (at FIA and through Applewood) and we are looking to emphasize sustainable and local food choices and highlight urban gardening. I would love to talk to you about how we can work together! Please let me know if this is the best way to get in touch… Thank you!

    Heidi,
Thanks for contacting. I know that Edible Flint will be representing many of the groups I work with. I will be participating in the Citywide summit that day and other Applewood staff will be at Earth Day celebrations. Its so exciting that so many wonderful events are happening that day in our community. Hopefully we can work together on an event soon!
